Provisional License Laws in Maryland
The state of Maryland considered a driver's license as a privilege, not a right. While the Maryland State encourages all new drivers to practice driving your behavior if your driver can drive to right in danger. You must hold a student for at least six months, and at least 16 years, 3 months old before you can obtain a provisional license. TRANS MD § 16-103 (c) (2). You must also show by means of a certified log you have completed the 60 hours of practice driving with a licensed adult. TRANS MD § 16-105 (d) (2) (iii). At this point you can apply for a provisional license.
Once you obtain a provisional license, You can legally drive, but you're subjected to different conditions. Unfortunately you can not drive with friends in your vehicle for at least the first six months that you keep your provisional license. You can only drive with family members, such as a parent, brother or sister or stepsibling. You can not create a wireless communications device, such as a mobile phone while driving while a provisional license. You may not drive between midnight and 5 hours, unless accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old or while driving to or from a work, school, volunteer or sporting activity. TRANS MD § 16-113 (d) (2), (3).
If you violate these conditions, or others, such as committing a moving violation or a crime, your provisional title = "avoid license suspension in Maryland"> license could be suspended. And you must keep your provisional license for at least 18 consecutive months before you qualify for a full license. If you have completed all requirements, and have held a provisional license without incidents for at least 18 months, then you can apply for a full license once you're 17 years, 9 months old. TRANS MD § 16-103 (c) (3).
New Drivers and Drunken Driving Violations
Whether you are a teenager or an adult driver, a Maryland police officer pulls you over if he or she suspects that you driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. But if you're a teen driver, the consequences are more severe. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration alcohol imposes a restriction on the license of any driver under the age of 21.
