what is an alcohol-sensor test, and how does it work /?
I KNOW IT tests for alcohol, BUT HOW DOES IT WORK AND HOW LONG DOES IT WORK FOR?
The device makes use of modern fuel cell technology. The fuel cell has two platinum electrodes with a porous acid electrolyte material placed between them. When exhaled air flows along one side of the fuel cell, the platinum oxidizes any alcohol in the air acetic acid, protons and electrons produce. The electrons flow through a wire from the platinum electrode. The wire is connected to an electric power meter and the platinum electrode to the other side. The protons pass through the lower portion of the fuel cell and combine with oxygen and electrons on the other side to form water. The more alcohol that is oxidized, the greater the electrical current. A microprocessor measures the electrical current and calculates the BAC.
