Toyota Formulates Anti-Drunk Driving System

Toyota is formulating an anti-drunk system that detects drunken drivers via steering wheel-based sensors. The sensors detect the alcohol content of drivers through their sweat. If the sensors detect unusual steering or if the installed camera shows that the pupils of the driver not focus on the road, the vehicle slowed to a halt.

Vehicles with said detection system will not start if sweat sensors high consumption of alcohol to detect in blood of the driver. Also included in the system is the special camera that shows the eyes of the driver. Said system is expected to reach the market by the end of 2009. Now will occupants of vehicles from the automaker not only be protected by the Toyota transmission speed sensor, front and side airbags and other safety devices, they can also count on the effectiveness of the anti-drunk system.

Nissan, another Japanese carmaker, has previously ventured into a system almost identical to this. Nissan device called the Breathalyzer. The latter is compared with the immobilizers in the United States used as part of a number of drunk driving sentences. The system can also be linked to a camera to monitor the driver as drowsy while driving. Saab and Volvo car parts are also designed to complement this system. This is because Sweden strict laws against drunk driving has. Similar technologies such as alcohol ignition locks are also rampant in the United States and other areas.

What did Toyota to formulate the anti-drunk system is the fact that drunk driving and alcohol-related accidents increased in Japan in 2006. In August, a drunk driver collided with another vehicle that a family of five. The three children were slain when the vehicle fell the bridge. The accident is asked the security along the road spot checks are done by the police. It was also the beginning of the calls for tougher penalties for drunken driving and other safety issues. With current statistics on drunk driving accidents, it is simply essential to equip vehicles with features and systems to ensure safety of the occupants.
